Indo – German Jugalbandhi

Lok Kala Manch and Pracheen Kala Kendra jointly organized a musical evening on the 3rd of March, 2016 at Lok Kala Manch Vasuki Auditorium at 6pm.

The concert was a special and rare one since it involved an instrumental Duet (Jugalbandhi) by Indian and German artists. The program featured the creator of Satvik Veena Tantree Samrat Pt. Salil Bhatt and the Guitar Maestro Mr. Mathias Muller. Mr. Pranshu Chaturial supported them on the Tabla.

The audience was treated to the enchanting and melodious strains emanating from the Satvik Veena and Guitar, expertly handled by the two artists.

The Organization:

Pracheen Kala Kendra was established in Chandigarh in 1956, by the late Shri M. L. Koiser under the patronage of the then Punjab Governor, Shri C.P.N. Singh and the then Chief Minister, Shri Pratap Singh Kairon.  The aim was to provide facilities for education, training, research, holding of examinations exclusively for the subjects pertaining to arts including the Performing and Visual arts. From a humble beginning over half a century back, the Kendra has now grown into an internationally acclaimed Institution of learning aiming to gain the status of an “Open University” of music and dance in times to come. Thanks to the foresighted approach of the Kosers – late Sh. M.L. Koser and Kathak wizard Smt. Shobha Koser, the Organization is now internationally famous.

The Kendra has the professional competence and infrastructure for holding various grades of examinations in Indian Classical Music (both vocal & instrumental), Classical Dances and Fine Arts (Painting) and it awards the certificates and diploma.

Besides, the Kendra undertakes various cultural activities and organizes a number of programs in classical music and dance, not only in Chandigarh but also in various other Indian states/cities. Holding of seminars, conferences, workshops, etc., are some of its main functions.

The Artists:

Tantree Samrat Pt. Salil - Creator of the Satvik Veena and heir to a 500 year musical legacy, represents the dynamic face of the new age Indian Musician. Being hailed as the ‘Global Indian Musician’, Salil has done it all. Salil is the first Indian musician to get Canadian Grammy nomination.

Matthias Muller is a graduate of the College of Music at Sulzbach-Resenberg, and studied classical as well as Jazz Music on guitar and also composition and arrangement at the Munich Gautier Institute and the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. Over the several decades of his musical career, he has toured internationally and played in many styles; he frequently composes music for film and television. Matthias compelling interest in Indian Classical music led him to study Carnatic Music (South Indian Style) too.

Mr. Pranshu Chaturial, grandson of legendry Late Pt. Chatur Lal and son of Pandit Charenpit Lal,  has been performing in India and abroad for long.
